Why Measuring Your Feet is Important?
The so-called average shoe size has changed multiple times over the decades by keeping in view the average shape of humans which has also changed quite a bit in the past decades. At the start of the 20th century, the normal or average woman’s shoe size was 35, which later became 36 then 37, and today, the size of an average woman’s shoe is 39.
The same goes for men, their shoe sizes have also gone up and down a lot since the 20th, from 39 to 40 to 41 and now the average size is 43.
Measuring your feet before buying shoes online, whether you are a man or a woman, should be a necessity as according to experts, along with our height gain, we also gain weight which affects the width and size of our feet every now and then, causing them to change sizes.
Sometimes we buy a shoe by seeing choosing the shoe size we bought from the last shop; always make sure to cross-check between the size chart of the store you are buying your shoes from and the average chart where you measured your feet.
Now you might be wondering how you can get the exact shoe size in an online store and reduce the risk of making the wrong order of shoes.
Well, no need to worry anymore. I have shared some of the most useful tips and tricks on how to choose the most accurate shoe size when shopping online, just down below! Make sure you give it a thorough read!
Tips to Get the Correct Shoe Size
As we are living in the age of technology and science, where every job and task is run by our computers. Online shopping has also been on a high rise because of the comfort and convenience it provides to its customers and clients.
The fact that you can buy yourself every kind of beautiful shoe without ever setting a foot outside of your home is actually very hard to believe.
Although, in order to shop online, you need to actually work smartly and observe each and every item that you are thinking of buying. If you do spot what seems to you like the most beautiful pair of shoes that you have ever come across, then don’t let the fear of choosing the wrong size stop you.
And to make sure you don’t do that, I’m going to give you some very much-needed tips on how to get your correct shoe size. So, let’s get right into the tips!
The length of your feet
Like I said before, the length of your feet keeps changing as you gain weight or as you start running. It also changes in your pregnancy or when you are going through some medical issues; as your feet get swollen, it slightly affects the length of your feet too.
This is why it is important to measure the length of your feet every time you are going to order your shoes.
Measuring the length of your feet can also get you your feet’ accurate measure in centimeters; you can then easily find the manufacturer’s size chart, and it will eventually make online shopping so much easier and more fun for you!
The shape of your shoe
I cannot stress over how important this step is to go through when you are on your phone or laptop, eager to order those pair of shoes. Always pay special and extra attention to the model of the shoes that you are about to buy since you are supposed to buy some of the unique or different shaped shoes in one size, smaller or bigger.
For example, when you are looking for pointed-toe shoes, you should always look for a size bigger than yours since pointed shoes already come in a smaller size of themselves.
So, buying a pointed shoe that is exactly your size can produce a lot of discomfort and irritation in your feet. The same goes for shoes with seams at the widest parts; it also goes for the people who have wider toes and smaller heels. To avoid these mishaps, always buy a size bigger than yours.
The shape of your foot
Just like the shape of your foot is important, the shape of your shoe is equally important, if not more. Some shoes are made for only formal setups and events.
These shoes may seem like a good option, and you might feel like you have to have them at any cost, but once they arrive, you will soon realize that there is no way you can wear these shoes for more than half an hour. Then you will realize that these shoes were not worth all the money you spent.
While some shoes will come at a very reasonable price with a very comfortable shoe shape that will allow you to wear them all day every day without them looking like they need to change or get replaced, these are the kind of shoe shapes that you should be looking for because these shoe shapes are designed to give your feet the most accurate fittings and comfort.
Seasonal changes in our feet are a reasonable thing and a big issue of which most people are unaware. What happens actually is, during summer, the feet sometimes get swollen and gain in size. While in winters, feet are said to go back to their most natural shape and size.
Another very important factor is that when sometimes we order shoes in winter, we accidentally end up giving our actual foot size. Please don’t make that mistake; when you are ordering boots in winters, don’t order them with your actual foot size; wear socks first, then measure your foot and then proceed with your order.
Measure both feet
I have personally heard a lot of people complain about how their left foot is hurting and the shoe is stabbing it, or how their right foot is suffocated; well, it is entirely your own mistake. Some of us humans are made with asymmetrical feet, which means that one of our feet, left or right one is bigger than the other.
This is why we should always measure both of our feet, cross-check them. Suppose one of the measurements is slightly bigger than the other one. Always make sure you go with the bigger one so that your feet don’t suffer.
How to Measure your Feet for Shoes
Thongs that you will need to measure
- 2 A4 Papers
- A Pen
- A Ruler
How to Measure
- Firstly, lay down both of your A4-sized papers on the floor. Make sure the surface where you are putting the papers is absolutely flat without any bumps or uneven surface.
- Once you’re done, put your feet on the paper and hold your pen vertically so that you don’t make any doting mistakes. Put a dot where your heel and then put a similar dot to where your longest toe ends.
- Take your ruler and then measure the distance between your heel and your longest toe. Write down the measurement.
- Then take your pen or sharpie again, and this time you have to measure the length of your feet.
- Start with putting a dot on the inside of your foot (the widest part) and then put a dot on the outside of your foot. Once you are done putting dots, measure them with your ruler.
- Repeat this step with both of your feet; if you are facing difficulty in this step, make sure you ask someone to help but don’t mess it up.
- If you still feel confused by the doting thing, you can trace your foot with a sharpie all the way around and then measures it later with your ruler.
